3rd Day: Reykjavik - Thingvellir - Geysir - Gullfoss Falls - Hvolsvöllur - Vik

Breakfast at the hotel. Today, take part in an excursion to the Golden Circle. Your first stop will be to Thingvellir, where the forces of the Great Atlantic Rift are clearly visible. This is where the North American and European tectonic plates drift apart 2-6 cm every year. Thingvellir is also the place where the ancient Icelandic parliament was established in 930.

From here, you will acquaint yourself with Strokkur, Iceland’s most visited Geysir, known for erupting every 10 minutes. Next, make your way to Gullfoss waterfall, one of the country’s most beautiful natural wonders. After this, you will visit a local horse stable and a greenhouse before driving through the landscapes of the south of Iceland to visit the new lava center in Hvolsvöllur.

If weather permits, you will end your day going on a hunt for the Northern Lights*. Make your way to your hotel for check-in and overnight stay in Vik. However, despite our long experience in leading groups, please note that the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon that is very hard to predict, hence sightings cannot be guaranteed.

*Please note: Of the two nights you will be spending in Vik, your guide will choose which of the two is best to see the Northern Lights.

4th Day: Vik - Jökulsarlon Glacier lagoon - Vik

Breakfast at the hotel. Today, head east along the southern shore, to get to see the majestic Jökulsarlon Glacier lagoon. Its still blue waters are dotted with icebergs from the surrounding Breidamerkurjökull Glacier, part of the larger Vatnajökull Glacier. This glacial lagoon flows through a short waterway into the Atlantic Ocean, leaving chunks of ice on a black sand beach.

The lagoon is filled with fishes that drift in from the sea along with the tides. Seals gather in large numbers at the mouth of the lagoon to catch the fish during the winter. Once you are done with your tour of the glacier, we will return to the hotel and overnight stay in Vik.

Tips: we advise to bring good shoes since in winter many sites may be covered in snow as well as their paths. The ground in Iceland can be slippery, wet, or icy. You may want to consider bringing or purchasing a pair of removable spikes (also known as crampons) to place on your shoes to aid with stability and grip. Also, you can bring your swimsuit, even if you don´t plan to swim. You might change your mind once you see the warm steaming lagoon!

If travelling with Wizz Air, Easy Jet, or Fly Play, we recommend that you check your luggage online in order to avoid extra fees. The reservation only includes one piece of hand luggage per person (40 cm x 20 cm x 25 cm), which must be placed underneath the seat in front of you on the plane. Additional baggage may be purchased in advance on the airline’s website. Any luggage item larger than the aforementioned dimensions that is not reserved in advance will be subject to additional charges in the airport.

Important note: Most flights to Iceland from Canada arrive very early in the morning. As a result, early check-in is not widely available and may be subject to availability. If this is important to you, please contact us in advance to see what can be arranged.
