Best time to visit the Seychelles

If you're wondering when the best time is to travel to Seychelles, you should know that any time is perfect. You can visit any of the islands all year round and the climate is wonderful in any season.

When to travel to Seychelles

Although you may find yourself with some rain from December to February, this won’t stop you from enjoying the country's good weather. On the other hand, June to August are the months preferred by tourists, since this is when you will find the best weather. Bearing all of this in mind, October and November would be the best time to travel to Seychelles, since you will have good weather, the best prices and fewer tourists to share the beach with!

April and May are also good options for visiting the islands, you will have a good temperature and you will be able to go hiking, diving, or simply relax on one of the many beaches.

On the other hand, and thinking only about the climate, in Seychelles there are two seasons, the dry season and the rainy season. The latter goes from the end of October to the end of March, the rain is abundant, but the temperatures are high. These are warm months with high humidity. The good news is that the country is outside of the area of influence of cyclones, so the monsoon rains won’t bring greater difficulties.

The dry season, however, goes from May to September, when there are gentle breezes and it hardly rains. The temperature is usually around 27ºC, so it is the perfect time to visit the archipelago.

We must add that the average temperature in Seychelles is between 24ºC and 32ºC all year round. For this reason, the country can be visited at any time, given that its climate is more than perfect. In reality, if you are wondering when to travel to Seychelles, the answer is simple: at any time!

Indeed, the climate of Seychelles isn’t just determined by its geographical position, but also by its terrain. Throughout its almost four hundred thousand square kilometers, these granitic and coral islands are spread out across the Indian ocean. Each one of them competes in beauty and diversity, with native forests, coconut trees and exuberant vegetation.

Geography of the Seychelles

The geography of Seychelles is unique. 42 of its 115 islands are of granitic origin and are nestled in the middle of the Indian Ocean. The famous granite islands of the Seychelles are situated near the capital of Mahé. However, to the southeast of this set of islands, are those of coral origin; islands and islets uninhabited by humans, but home to an impressive marine biodiversity.

The Aldabra Atoll, taking up a third of the Seychelles territory, is the largest in the world, and has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Another unique feature of the archipelago is its native flora and fauna. An example of these is the sea coconuts, fruits of a palm tree which is endemic to the islands. More examples are the species of giant tortoises, unique chameleons, geckos and also the beautiful species of orchids belonging to the region.

The islands have numerous natural parks that protect all of this biodiversity. This variety of plant and animal life is due to the country's geographical isolation and its steady year-round climate.

Tourist season in the Seychelles

To plan your trip to this paradise, it is also essential to know about the different tourist seasons.

High season

The high season in the Seychelles coincides with the months of July and August, on the one hand, and December and January on the other. In July and August, as well as coinciding with the holidays of a large part of the world population, it is also the dry season. Finding accommodation can be difficult and the prices will be higher. The same happens in December and January, this time because there are a large number of Hindu cultural festivals during these months alongside celebrations such as Christmas and New Year.

Mid-season

From April to May and September to November is considered mid-season, so there are fewer visitors and it is easier to find accommodation. The weather is perfect for visiting the islands and doing water sports, hiking and whale watching. If you avoid the busy Easter holidays, it is a good time to travel to the Seychelles.

Low season

The months of February, March and also June, are those that form part of the low-season in the Seychelles. During these months you will find great travel offers, cheaper airfares and fewer tourists.
