Events and festivals in Argentina

Argentina is a country full of traditions. These traditions are celebrated in the various parties and events organized throughout the year in different parts of the country. Some are of pagan origins, like the popular carnivals or the Pachamama, where the traditions of the natives are celebrated and thanks are given to nature.

One of its most venerated products is wine, so during the harvest season, some localities pay homage to the people who work in the sector and to the harvest of that year. Argentina is a country of art and literature, so some celebrations highlight exhibitions and festivals focused on the country’s cultural heritage.

In addition to being a tribute to the best of its gastronomy, this great festival includes shows, live music and an important prize draw is organized.

It is a mixture of the traditions imposed during the Spanish colonization and the older native traditions, such as Pachamama. During the first day, the pilgrims go to the mountains to unearth the devil, a key figure in these festivities which is then buried again at the end of the Carnival. The music and the dancing continue throughout the night.

Called "We Xipantu" or "Nquillatún" in Mapuche, which means New Year, this millenary tradition is celebrated in the south of Argentina, in the Patagonia region, and in many of the towns of Chile. The Longest Night

The Longest Night

Every June 21 the Longest Night is celebrated in Ushuaia, in Tierra del Fuego, with a party to honour the winter solstice in the southern hemisphere. This means that it is the longest night of the year and, therefore, the day is shorter. In this area, it gets dark around 5pm. From the sunset, different shows and events are organized in the different cultural centers of the region. There is also music and partying and, around Encerrada Bay, there are vivid illuminations. The night ends with colourful fireworks.
