Tourist attractions Brisbane

Brisbane is the capital of the Australian state of Queensland, and is located in the south-eastern region of the state. Geographically, it lies to the east of the Great Dividing Range on the coast of the Pacific Ocean, very close to Moreton Bay and on the banks of the river of the same name. With 2,274,560 inhabitants in 2014, it is the third most populous city in the country, after only Sydney and Melbourne. To the west of Brisbane, the skyline is dominated by the presence of Mount Cootha, at the foot of which is a planetarium and botanical gardens. At its summit is a lookout point offering magnificent views of the city and its rippling river. In and around Brisbane there are a number of attractions for visitors. Many visitors to the city come to see the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast, both of which are popular all year round for their attractive beaches, and are close to Brisbane. Another notable area in Brisbane is Paddington, with plenty of traditional shops, cafes, retro bars and eateries in addition to a pleasant nightlife. Brunswick Street, next to the Chinatown Mall, is known for antique and second-hand shops.
