Tegucigalpa

Tourist attractions Tegucigalpa

Founded in the 16th century, Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras is one of the oldest cities in Central America after Panama and San Salvador. Part of its colonial heritage has been lost over the years, although it is still possible to see some architecture of the time in any travel to Tegucigalpa.

Among its monuments of interest are the church of Nuestra Señora de Suyapa, where the patron saint of the city is located; the Cathedral of San Miguel Arcángel, one of the most majestic buildings of Tegucigalpa; the sculpture of the Cristo del Picacho, which stands on the homonymous hill at the north end of the city; and the church of Santa María de Los Dolores, one of the oldest in the country.

Some of the museums dedicated to the history of Honduras are the National Identity Museum, Chiminike and the Republican History Museum Villa Roy.

One of the characteristics of the capital of Honduras is that it has numerous leafy parks and green areas. La Tigra, declared a national park, was the first of them and is currently one of the most visited in the country due to its ecological value.
