    The Meteora monasteries are located in the north of Greece, on the Thessaly plain, near to Kalambaka, in the Pinios river valley. The area has been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1988. These are constructions perched on the top of grey rocks, shaped by erosion and called Meteora. They are located at a height of 600 metres above sea level and have been inhabited since the 14th century.
